Hi Triglav members. I’ve wanted to create a newsletter for a long time but keep putting it off. Until now! The licking, sticking and addressing was the part of the job I didn’t want to deal with. Then a light bulb went off in my little head and I thought that e-mailing would be answer. So, here we go. Gee, now that I’m writing this, I don’t know where to start. Oh great.
This is newsletter number one, that I hope will lead to number 2,3,4……..well, you get my drift. I am not a well writer, a good writer, a nice writer…………………I don’t write very well. I hope to make you smile a little and if you cry it is only because of my grammatical mistakes. Forgive me if I use who instead of whom etc. I wish I would have (or is it had) paid more attention in school. See what I mean?
The purpose of this newsletter is to keep you up to date (see title above) of the happenings at Triglav Park. Picnic dates, meeting dates, when we could use help and to hopefully get members more involved in meetings and coming to picnics. We all miss hearing the voices and seeing the faces that haven’t been to the park in a long time and I would like to invite you back to this little part of heaven. Here is a little blurb on how this park started. I took liberties with some of the text.
In the beginning, like 1961, Triglav Park was created. The park was a forest and darkness covered the earth below the trees while a mighty wind swept over the lake. Then, the founding fathers said, “Let there be light,” and trees began to fall. They saw how good the light was. They called the light “day” and the darkness “night”. Thus, evening came, and morning followed. It was the first day at Triglav Park.
The founding fathers were named Frank, John, Joe, John, Joe, Frank, Joe, Frank, John and Ivan among others. Some had children already. Many more were to come. They named them Frank, John, Joe, John, Joe, Frank, Joe, Frank, John and Charlie among others. Then these children had children and they named them odd names like Jason, Nick, Brad, Mike, Alex and Thomas among others. And the mothers and daughters were named…………………………………ok, I’m done.
The founding fathers had a vision to create a place for all to congregate. Over the years, there have been many changes to Triglav but the one thing that hasn’t changed is the beauty of its people.
Triglav is a communion of some pretty good folks and it is so interesting and educational to listen to the first generation talk about their experiences growing up in Slovenia, having to flee from their homes, some having to fight a war and then all coming to a foreign country, not speaking English with practically nothing with them. I could sit for hours listening to them, and I have. So many of you have too. If you haven’t had the chance to do this, I urge you to take one of these people aside and listen and learn.
There are two dozen or more little ones running around to converse with also. These children are the future of the park. Take a moment to talk to these children. You can learn a lot from them. You can also teach them a lot.
Come for the food and drink. Stay for the camaraderie. That’s what this park is all about. Sharing good times with people. From age 1 to 93, it’s all there at Triglav Park. Let’s use this park for what it was designed for. A place to congregate. I will be e-mailing you a list of all the members e-mail addresses. Wouldn’t it be cool to e-mail someone you haven’t seen in a long time and get them to meet you at Triglav Park on one or more of the picnic dates? The park you grew up in!! My hope is that we can all take advantage of this technology and really fill up the field / parking lot with cars loaded with people ready to have a great time.
Please make a Triglav Park picnic a date on your calendar and bring two friends. That is going to be a main theme throughout this newsletter writing experience. Let’s show off this park to our friends and neighbors. You’ll have the dates in hand in plenty of time so start asking your neighbors and friends, outside of Triglav, to come along for a great time. For those of you who come to many or all of our picnics, you know how much fun a day at Triglav can be. Like I said before, there are faces we haven’t seen in awhile. We would love to see you again. Please come back and check us out. You won’t be disappointed.
Do you have something you’d like put in this newsletter? Just e-mail it to me and I’ll copy and paste it. This is going to be great!
The next picnic is the Vinska on September 19th. There will be live music. There is no mass at this picnic so everything gets on its way at 12:00. It is the last picnic of the year so I hope we have a big turnout. It is hard, almost impossible, to judge how many people will show up on a given picnic. The weather has a lot to do with it. I can understand your reluctance to not show up at a picnic if it is raining but we have a dilemma here. If it is raining and you don’t show up, we still have to get rid of all the food that must be cooked. So, can you look the other way if it is raining and come out anyway? Not just at this picnic, but at all picnics. Bring a deck of cards and some games for the kids and share some conversation and laughter in the dom. I can just see 8 or more games of Tarok being played and all the fun we all can have just chatting with people we may not have seen in awhile.
Helen needs help in the kitchen on the 19th but so much goes on the day before. She has asked me to get the word out that she could use a few good hands on the 18th starting around 10:00. A lunch is served so we break for lunch and talk, eat and drink and enjoy each other’s company. It is a great way to spend a Saturday. I might even have a joke or two to tell.
Janez could also use a few gentlemen (on Saturday the 18th) to help with cutting and trimming grass. Tables need to be washed down and a few brooms could be pushed. Seeing that it is Vinska, we need help decorating the dom. That takes awhile so get your stuff done at home the night before or early in the morning and come on out for a little work and a lot of fun. After we prepare the chickens we start making dust so 10:00 is a good starting time. If you would like to, you can call me on my cell (262-470-5295) before you come out to see what’s up. I usually have it attached to me. Hope to see you.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom Yaklich and his family. Tom took a terrible fall a few months ago and fractured his scull among other injuries. He is doing better but has a long row to hoe. We miss him and hope that he will be back on his feet soon. The gang at Triglav awaits him. His family did show up at the last picnic and it was a bittersweet meeting. We wish them all the best too in this difficult time.
Also, John Levicar has gone through quite an ordeal. He developed throat cancer and underwent numerous chemo treatments. Looks like he is going to be just fine and will continue to be his jovial self.
Up coming events!!
