Hi everyone!!

Well, another year of fun at Triglav Park is soon to arrive. Memorial Day is Monday, May 30th and chickens and Slovenian sausages will be served up to all. Now I know that some of our members and our “Friends of Triglav” tend to stay home on Memorial Day and picnic in their back yards with their family. But how about trying something different this year? Why not bring the family to Triglav Park for a day of fun with people you may have not seen in awhile? Give it some thought. Hope to see you at Triglav!

Slovenian Arts Council:

MaryCay Freiberg, President of the Slovenian Arts Council, would like to thank all Triglav Members who came to the 3rd Annual Slovenian Fest, held at St. John The Evangelist on April 3, 2005. “We invite more Triglav members to come next year”.  Helen and I were planning to spend an hour or two and wound up spending the whole day. If you weren’t there, you really missed a good time. And like I have said in the past, if more of us attend other Slovenian functions, more people will visit us at Triglav Park. It’s a win, win, situation. Congratulations to MaryCay and the Slovenian Arts Council. We all enjoyed ourselves.

Save our road!

The speed limit on Highway 36 is 55mph. The speed limit on Loomis is 35mph. The speed limit on the gravel road to Triglav Park is 20mph. Take your time. A lot of work goes in to keeping up a gravel road and this year, our neighbor John Roed, put in hours to help us out. Please help us save our road. Please slow down to 20mph.

Mothers Day Program & Meeting:

The annual Mothers Day Program was held May 15th in the Dom.  The weather was a little cold, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of those present. Helen Frohna, hey, that’s my wife, started the program by welcoming everyone especially all the mothers and grandmothers present.  She also remembered our deceased mothers of Triglav. Mark Frohna, Jimmy, Katie and Becky Kaye, Kristina Mejac, and Joe and Brad Sagadin presented a carnation to the Blessed Mother in their memory.   Becky Kaye then told us about her trip to Washington D.C. and how she had visited the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.  She definitely showed her Slovenian pride as she described the beautiful shrine and what it means to her and how each of us should also be very proud to be Slovenian. Her memories will last forever!  Mr. Menchak then led the litany with Mara Kolman leading us in song.  On Monday, May 23rd, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Brezje. On this eve all Slovenians all over the world are asked to light a candle in their home and spend some time in prayer.  Please join your fellow Slovenians in prayer on this night.

Our second meeting of the year followed the mothers day program. Our costs for just about everything, needed to make up chicken and Slovenian sausage dinners, have gone up so it was voted on that we raise our prices to $9.00 for a dinner. The bar prices stayed the same.

Baraga Days will be held this year in Cleveland over the Labor Day weekend.  Several of the organizations are working together to rent a bus for anyone interested in going.  Our liaison for Triglav is Mrs. Milka Menchak, so if you would like more information please talk to her.  She will have information posted in the Dom as more information becomes available.

The bylaws committee presented the revised bylaws to the Executive board. A few minor changes need to be made. These changes will be made shortly and then will be e-mailed to those with e-mail addresses. Those who do not have e-mail will receive the bylaws by regular mail.  Please look over these bylaws (there are a number of revisions), so you can be prepared to discuss them at the meetings and then vote on them at the Obcni Zbor.

The “A” Team

Write these dates down. Janez and I need your help on Saturday May 21st. We will be taking out the tables and putting the raft back in the water, among other things. On Saturday, May 28th, we need your help again to get ready for the Memorial Day Picnic held on Monday, May 30th. Grass will need cutting and trimming, bathrooms need cleaning and on and on. So mark your calendar and come on out for a little work and a lot of fun. It really is fun working together.

From the Kitchen:

The kitchen is officially open for the year and so that means Marty and I are once again asking for your help to make the kitchen run smoothly and be successful.

The first picnic of the year is Monday May 30th and so we need your help on Saturday the 28th to salt the chickens, clean the kitchen and other preparations. We will begin around 10:00 a.m.

On Sunday we will be cooking the potatoes and anything we possibly can to make less work for us on Monday. If you have time we would appreciate your help in the afternoon anytime after 2:00.  Monday is picnic day and so your help is needed in serving.  I have made a schedule, which is posted in the kitchen of the dates and times of the 5 picnics. There are enough members that each one of you need only sign up for one picnic.  I encourage each one of you to choose the one picnic you can work so that you will be making your contribution to Triglav Park. If you want to secure your time slot, because maybe you have already plans for the summer, just e-mail me at hfrohna@wi.rr.com with the date you want and I will put you on the schedule. Thanks in advance to everyone and I look forward to working with you again this summer.

Helen

Our bar manager writes:

Since I don’t know how I’m going to be feeling yet, going thru the chemo and radiation treatments, I’d like to have a schedule for bartenders to help my sons, Johnny and Mike, bartend during picnics. We only need for the Prvi Picnic (1st picnic)  June 26th,  Mission Picnic July 24th,  Drugi Picnic (Second Picnic) August 21st and the Vinska Trgatev (wine festival) September 18th. Please sign up for either the early shift, 12pm to 2:00pm, or the late shift, 2:00pm till 4:00pm. I’ll put a final schedule out when we get all the responses. Just email me back with your intentions. jlevi888@msn.com

We're going to try some MEAT raffles for the bar this year. Your help would be appreciated with this also, either with dollars or with selling raffle tickets. You'll like the meat. Proceeds will go to update the bar and purchase supplies.

Thanks!  Janko

Did you know?

Triglav is 221 members strong. We have 56 family memberships totaling 161 members. That breaks down to 108 adults and 53 children. We also have 60 single members. Or you can look at it this way. We have 168 adult members and 53 future Triglav members. Although not 18 yet, I consider the children “members” because they are under the family membership plan so I like to include them in our total 221 members.

We have 11 out of town family memberships and 23 out of town single memberships. Is anyone finding this interesting?

We have 21, two family memberships.

We have   7, three family memberships.

We have 11, four family memberships.

We have   7, five family memberships.

And again, we have 60 single memberships.

One last tidbit. Since all the founding members children have grown and are now members, there are no families in Triglav with more than 3 children. Founding members Mejac’s had four and Yakos’s had four, Smolic’s had four, Coffelt’s come to mind, and I’m sure there were others, but all these founding member’s children have only added 3, or less, to their family. I don’t know. I just find this stuff interesting.

Another link on our website:

There is a new button to click, on our website. It is titled “Memories of Triglav”. Mary Lochowitz (Bambic) wrote me about an early memory she had of Triglav and I thought it would be great to compile some memories of Triglav on the website. It’s not just limited to one memory!  So, young or old, please write me with your memories to share with all of us. I think this would be very informative. There is so much we can learn from each other. Come on. Send those e-mails! cfrohna@wi.rr.com
