Only a strong breeze kept the meeting inside. Otherwise, it was
beautiful day. We gained 5 new members. Alex Mejač, son of Janez and Marti
Mejač, Eric Rozina, son of Marjan and Lynn Rozina, Kelly Vesel, daughter of Frank and Marie Vesel,
Christina Vesel, wife of
Eric Vesel, and Leigha Yaklich,
daughter of Tom and Deann Yaklich. Congratulations to all of you and welcome to The Triglav Cultural
Society.
Now................to the elections!!
The Board of Directors
President: Tom Smolič stepped down as
our president because he felt he was unable to
devote enough of his time to carry out the duties of the president..
He logs a lot of frequent flyer miles and finding time for Triglav business was
just becoming impossible. Thank you Tom for the past two years of contributions to The
Triglav Cultural Society and we all wish you good luck in the future.
Craig Frohna, that would be me, was elected new president, although I, nor any other
board member, take the position officially until January as per our bylaws. Yes, I was nominated and I said
if no one else was interested in the position, I would give it a try. Helen Frohna,
Janez Mejač and Joe Ornik, were nominated but they turned it down for various reasons. So a
secret ballot
vote was taken and I was voted in. I wonder what would have happened if I didn't
win against myself? Anyway, I would like to thank the membership for giving me
this opportunity. I would also like to take a second to clear something up. You
will remember that over a year ago I quit my position as assistant park manager,
because of some unjust criticism,
but I did not relinquish my membership. The simple truth of the matter
is, I missed Triglav Park. I missed the
culture, the heritage, and the people. Thanks to a guardian angel, she knows who she
is, all of this is in the past. Apologies have been exchanged from both sides
and my wish and hope for the future, for all parties, is a positive one and that
our main concern is the prolonged existence of The Triglav Cultural Society. I know I can make a positive
contribution, therefore, I am
happy to be back. One thing I need to do before the next meeting is read
"Roberts Rule of Order". I admit, I have no idea as to how to run a
meeting. By January, I should be good to go. I will also continue on with the writing of this newsletter
and managing Triglav's website. I am looking forward to working with all the
members.
Vice President: Joe Ornik, decided that perhaps a new face with new ideas
would be in order so Joe stepped down as Vice President. We tried to figure out
how many years Joe had in as VP and we came up with 15 to 20 years. I would
think that this is unprecedented and on behalf of the entire membership, I would
like to thank Joe for his many years of contribution to The Triglav Cultural
Society. I know we'll see Joe at future Triglav events.
Jake Modic will take over for Joe as Vice President and I couldn't be happier.
Jake and I go way back. We became friends through The Triglav Cultural Society
and we discuss Triglav's future often. We will work together and concentrate on,
increasing revenue, increasing membership participation, working closely with
the park manager to keep Triglav, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful parks, and
to bring back the Slovenian culture that has been slowly slipping away from our
organization. Congratulations Jake!
Secretary: Mary Ann Sulik stepped down because of time constraints. Mary
Ann spent 6 years as secretary and was a well organized person with a great zeal
for detail. The person taking over for her will have no trouble adapting to her
book keeping. Thank you Mary Ann for giving up so much of your time for The
Triglav Cultural Society.
And that person taking over for Mary Ann is
Helen Frohna. I believe I know her.
Without a doubt, Helen will do an excellent job as secretary and knowing Helen,
she will take the extra step in helping to keep the Slovenian ethnicity and
culture alive. Thanks Helen for taking this position on the board.
Treasurer: Carmen Strmšek decided to
stay on as Treasurer and what a relief that is. With Carmen's background in
financing she is doing an outstanding
job keeping the books in order for Triglav, which is no easy task. Thank you so much for deciding to continue
on as our Treasurer.
Recording Secretary: Marička Kadunc was our Recording Secretary for many
years and was simply the best, but decided she had put enough years into the job
and resigned in 2005. Katie Kaye took over for Marička but found out that college supersedes
her job as Recording Secretary, and rightfully so. Katie, The Triglav Cultural
Society wishes you all the best in the future. I believe we'll see quite a few
accomplishments out of Katie's desire to be her best at whatever she chooses to
do.
Elizabeth Gordon is our new Recording Secretary. Knowing Liz, she'll do an outstanding job. Welcome aboard Liz.
Park Manager: Charlie Strmšek has been park manager for one year and he
decided he likes it enough to stay in that position for another year, hopefully
longer. Charlie has some good ideas and has Triglav's future constantly in mind.
Keep up the good work Charlie.
Society Directors
Assistant Park Manager: Ludwig Vesel also has one year under his belt and
we're glad he decided to stay on as Assistant Park Manager. Lud works hard and
is committed to keeping Triglav's beauty in tact.
Kitchen Manager: Ellen Strmšek
stepped down as Kitchen Manager because she wants to do some traveling with her
sister. How cool is that??!! We said she could resign but only if she sends us
postcards. Thanks Ellen for your past contribution as Kitchen Manager and happy
traveling.
At our meeting, no one volunteered to be the new Kitchen Manager so I said that
Jake and I would search one out and that is going on as of this printing.
Assistant Kitchen Manager: Marti Mejač
raised her hand and said she'd stay on as Assistant Kitchen Manager. There is no
doubt that Marti is the backbone of that kitchen. She knows just the right
amount of seasoning to add to the chickens or just the right amount of vinegar
and oil to add to the salad. Marti is there the day before a picnic and the day
of the picnic doing what ever it takes to help keep things running smoothly.
Thank you Marti for all you do for our membership.
Bar Manager: Jason Strmšek took a new
job and has to work on Sundays, so managing the bar would not work into his
schedule any longer. This is unfortunate because Jason was doing an excellent
job. Thanks Jason and good luck to you in your new career.
Marjan Rozina will be our new Bar Manager. Marjan has always helped out with
bartending duties and is a shoe in for this position. Honest, organized,
personable, and an eye for cleanliness, it will be a pleasure to have Marjan in
this management position. Thanks Marjan!
Sports Director: The Sports Director position was vacant this past year
and it showed. So Matt Mejač and Meagan Strmšek,
excellent athletes in their own right, decided to take over the reins of Sports
Director together. I think this is an excellent pairing and know fun events will
be in order for all of us because of this tag team. Thanks and congratulations
go out to both of you.
Domovina Reporter: Helen Frohna took over for Mara Kolman, after Mara's
passing, and is excited to continue on as the Domovina Reporter.
Folk Fair Coordinator: Elizabeth Gordon is back for another year as Folk
Fair Coordinator. Liz and her husband Jim have done just an exceptional
job keeping the Slovenian heritage alive at Folk Fair. Thank you Liz and Jim for
your hard work and dedication and we'll see you at Folk Fair again this
November.
USPEH Representative: Josephine Janežič
has agreed to take on this position again and in doing so keep open the
communication between all organizations.
Choir Director: Mara Kolman passed away this year and she took a little
piece of Triglav with her. Always the "leader of the band", she will be missed
deeply.
Elizabeth Gordon will be taking over for Mara. Liz has a degree in music so we
are confident and happy to have Liz as our Choir Director.
Triglav has come a long way and will continue to grow. Thanks to the many members,
behind the scenes, that keep the park alive with your time and talents. There
are just to many people to thank, but you know who you are. The barbeque crew,
the kitchen crew, the bartenders, the grounds crew, including those that keep
the flowers alive, and our "Bled" chapel so beautiful, and the bolina
courts in such good shape. Thanks to the bakery
ladies and everyone who donates their homemade treats, the raffle organizer and those that donate prizes,
the members who prepare the alter for Mass for each picnic and those who
make the long trek to pick up the chickens and the sausages. Your participation
is very much appreciated by all.
Here are 3 upcoming events! To top of page
Leaf raking!! Yup, it's that time of year again.
Grab your rake and plan to spend a fun filled day at Triglav park with many
members you possibly have not seen in awhile. Lunch will be served and a fire is
always going. I'll have a date for you in the near future when our park manager,
Charlie Strmšek, decides on what day will be the best.
Folk Fair 2006: The Holiday
Folk Fair will take place Friday, November 17th, Saturday the 18th and Sunday
the 19th, at The Wisconsin State Fair Grounds. It is held in the huge exhibition
center on the corner of 84th and Greenfield in West Allis. Advance ticket sales
can be purchased for $8.00 ($10.00 at the door) by contacting Liz Gordon @
414-442-5463. Liz and Jim also need your help setting up the booth on
Thursday November 16th starting at 5:00 PM. Anyone interested in sitting in the
booth for a 2 hour, or longer, shift may also call Liz. Then the tear down of the booth
begins at 7:00PM on Sunday the 19th. Help would be appreciated then also. The
Slovenian booth is located near the northwest corner of the building. If you
have not participated in the past, I can assure you, we have a lot of fun.

I changed the homepage so the links are more accessible and that the page
doesn't look so busy. This site is always evolving so check back regularly.
Remember, it is very simple to mention our web address to family, friends,
and co-workers in order for them to get acquainted with our park.
Just say "www.triglavpark.com!" We get a lot of
hits on our website and it is an excellent marketing tool. Tell
them to check out our calendar of events and tell them to "Make us a date and bring two friends!"
Our website along with this slogan
is a fantastic way of keeping Triglav prosperous.
You are now up to date. Until next time.
