Our first meeting
To top of page
of the year was held on January 21st. We set up our calendar of
events for the 2007 year. Jake talked about some bylaw changes to Article XV. Those changes will be e-mailed or mailed to you before
being voted on at the Obcni Zbor. Charlie talked about work to be done this year
and once again asked for help in order to complete these projects. I will notify
everyone in advance so hopefully we'll have enough help on hand. We also talked
about raising dues. My favorite. According to our bylaws, raising dues can only be done
at the Obcni Zbor so that is when this vote would take place.
Kitchen Manager:

After 4 months of searching, no one has stepped forward to take on the
kitchen manager position. As I stated before, a committee consisting of everyone
working in the kitchen on a given picnic day will make the daily decisions, but
I think it is best that we have one person that would head up the kitchen. Any
takers? Please let me know.

are expecting a baby August 22nd. Why do I think this child will
be riding something motorized in the near future? Congratulation to both of you.
New Slovenian logo & slogan:
To top of page
Slovenia has a new logo. Go to
http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/slove_is_in_the_air.php
to view it. The logo is a combination of Mount
Triglav (the tallest mountain in Slovenia), a linden leaf (a symbol of
Slovenian culture) and a heart. I guess it will grow on me but right now I
think it would be a good advertising logo for a blood drive. The new Slovenian slogan is "I Feel Slovenia",
with the word “love” in Bold. The old slogan was Slove is in the air,
again with “love” in bold. I like the new one better. What about you?
A beautiful video
To top of page
about Slovenia is online by clicking here:
http://www.carniola.org/2006/12/slovenia-my-land.htm It is called
Slovenija moja dežela (Slovenia, my land) and is actually a commercial
that ran years ago. It has come to symbolize Slovenia’s break with Yugoslavia.
Once there, click on the play button twice in the middle of the picture.
The next meeting To

for Triglav will be held on May 20th at 2:00 at Triglav Park. The
upcoming picnic season will be discussed along with projects to be done. Also,
we usually have a Mothers Day program after the meeting. If anyone would like to
put something together, please contact me and I'll let our membership know in
the next newsletter.
Super Bowl XLI To top of page
All is good with the world. The Bears didn't win the Super Bowl. My
apologies to you Bears fans. Sure looked like they were going to after the first
15 seconds of the game. I have a new respect for Prince though. Playing in a
down pour without getting all prima donna about it. Also, I am waiting for Billy Joel to call me regarding his water logged piano.
Oh that just killed me to see water bouncing off that Steinway. Can't imagine
the keys ever working again. Here is a picture of Billy playing said Steinway.
It was pouring at the time!

A proud Slovenian and huge supporter of Triglav Park, Jerry Umek, has
had quite a traumatic time over the past 4 months. Diagnosed with prostate
cancer, Jerry underwent major surgery (6 hours). The surgery went real well
and Jerry went home. But
then a blood clot formed on his lung and it was back to the hospital. The next 4 weeks were spent on his back
with tubes inserted in places we'd rather not talk about. Being on tons of
morphine, Jerry didn't know up from down. Last rights were given. It did not
look like Jerry would see another day. But then, miraculously, Jerry started to
improve, was released from the hospital and back home he went. Jerry's health
continues to improve day by day. So much so, while shopping at Office Depot last week, who did I see in
the next isle? I couldn't believe it. We had a long talk and I am happy to
report that Jerry looks great, is happy to be alive, and thanks everyone
for their thoughts, prayers and cards. Jerry, glad to have you back.
The Closing of St.
Mary's Help of Christians: To top of page
Years ago, having a bumper sticker saying "I closed Wolski's" meant you had a
great evening / morning and were happy to let everyone know that you were part
of an elite group of people. When closing a church, number one, you don't get a
bumper sticker and number two, no one is very happy. An end of an era came to be
March 18th when the last mass at St. Mary's Help of Christians was held.
Auxiliary Bishop Richard Sklba did a great job bringing to mind memories of the
church, reminding us of the baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals,
Bishop Sklba made the 1 1/2 hr. service something special. Our Spiritual
Director, Father Joze Gole, ended the service speaking very personally, in
Slovenian, about the history and love he felt for this parish. Many of us have
our own memories of this parish that we will never forget.

Raffle prizes:

Our always smiling raffle organizer, Kathy Mejac, is asking for
donations to our raffle for each picnic. If anyone has any Christmas presents
(or any other presents for that matter) they are not going to put to good use,
please think of donating them to Triglav for our raffle. You can contact Kathy
at 414-529-3881.
Our Website:

I put up a link to "Kitchen Sign Up" on our website. Pick out a time
slot or two, e-mail me with your choice, and I will post it immediately. A copy
of this sign up sheet will also be posted in the kitchen so you can sign up
there too. I believe this will help us get the workers needed to keep Triglav's
kitchen up and running. Speaking of the kitchen, I also put up our menu for our
customers to view before coming out to Triglav. When I speak of our park to my
customers and friends, I am always asked as to what we serve at Triglav. Now I
can just tell them to visit our website and they can see for themselves. That's
all any of us need to do when promoting our park. Just tell whom ever you are
talking to "Just go to our website." They can check our calendar of
events, look at our menu, get directions, learn some history and language, and
link to many other interesting tid bits. I gotta say, it's pretty
informative.
If anyone would like to announce a birthday, engagement, wedding, an
upcoming birth or
Bar Mitzvah,
please contact me and I'll post it. Also, if anyone would like to
write anything of interest for this newsletter, e-mail it to me and I'll post
that too. Thanks. You are now up to date. Until next time.
