A visit by the Consul General:    To top of page
On Friday, May 11th, Triglav Park was honored to have the Consul General from the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Zvone Zigon, visit us. Dr. Zigon was accompanied by his wife Irena and Irena's father, Gospod Janez Bizjak. Dr. Zigon presented Triglav with a bottle of wine and a beautiful book on Slovenia depicting different regions, it's culture and heritage. I then presented Dr. Zigon with a whirligig made by Ivan Bambic. As we all know, Mr. Bambic constructs his whirligigs based on memories of his childhood in Slovenia so it was a very special moment for Mr. Bambic and Dr. Zigon said he will cherish his new gift. We were then treated to a wonderful power point presentation on Slovenia and Dr. Zigon talked to us about his duties as Consul General and the importance of keeping the Slovenian culture and heritage alive. Dr. Zigon was extremely helpful to many people regarding legal issues. There just wasn't enough time to help everyone so Dr. Zigon said that he will return to Triglav in the near future to aid those who need him. I will let all of you know when this will take place. I am certain that Dr. Zigon's visit will be invaluable to our society.

Kitchen Manager:    To top of page
After our first picnic of the year (Memorial Day) it seems that the kitchen ran very well without a kitchen manager. So we will leave it this way until someone comes up with a better idea. I believe that everyone knows the what, where and how to run our kitchen so my opinion is, why try to fix it if it isn't broke. If I had my druthers, I'd like to be able to turn to one person for questions I may have and answers I may need, but that just isn't in the cards right now.

Mothers Day:    To top of page
May 20th, before our meeting, we had a short Mothers Day program. Helen Frohna put together a very nice program for us. Mr. Menchak led us in the praying of the Litanja and Dari Strmsek delighted us with several stories of her youth in Slovenia. Special thanks go out to Triglav member Beta Modic of Wenatchee, Washington, for sending us mothers day bookmarks which she made for all the mothers. A picture is below. It added a very unique touch to this special day.

Memorial Day:     To top of page
It sure was a beautiful day. Sunshine with the temperature in the mid 70's. The park looked fantastic! We received numerous compliments on the beauty of our park. We had many members working hard to get Triglav in tip top shape and it showed. The food was excellent as always. Thanks to all for your hard work. Lots of new faces and many people came up from Chicago for our Memorial Day service. Much thanks to our celebrant Father Gregor Gorsic, from St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church in Romeoville, Il. who gave a very moving homily. Also, many thanks go out to Mrs. Fanika Gorsic, Mr. Franjo Mejac, Mr. Joze Rus, Mr. Lojze Gregorich, Helen Frohna, Kathy Kaye, and Anne Mejac for their readings. All, were very moving and touching. Mark Frohna played taps on the trumpet which added a special moment to the service. Good job Mark! In past years I noticed people getting impatient and leaving the Memorial Day service early to get in line to buy dinner tickets. This year was very different. Not only did everyone stay until the end, completely focused on what was being said, afterwards when moving outdoors, there was no rush to buy dinner tickets. Everyone stood around and talked about the service. This was a testament to this years service. It was new and very educational. All the participants deserve our gratitude for a job well done.

Next Picnic:    To top of page
Our next picnic will be Sunday June 24th.  Music will be by The Mike Schneider Band. "Make us a date and bring a few friends."  That's right! Bring a friend, neighbor, or co-worker. Lets fill up Triglav Park with people who want to have as much fun as us. Naturally, we need help the day before and the day of the picnic. Please try to donate some time to help get your park ready for another great picnic.

A change for July 4th:    To top of page
This year, we at Triglav (Members only) will be celebrating the 4th of July on Saturday, June 30th. The change was Charlie Strmsek's idea and everyone seems to like it. This way, we can have our celebration, triathlon, and fireworks, and have Sunday to re-coop, if you will. The park will be "open" on the 4th of July for bolina enthusiasts and camaraderie but again, there will be no "festivities" to speak of, unless our sports directors come up with something. If that is the case, I'll let you know in advance.  So mark your calendars for Saturday, June 30th, the new 4th of July.

Next Meeting:    To top of page
Our next meeting will be July 15th at Triglav Park. The meeting will start at 2:00.

In need of Raffle prizes:     To top of page
Our always smiling raffle organizer, Kathy Mejac, is asking for donations to our raffle for each picnic. If anyone has any Christmas presents (or any other presents for that matter) they are not going to put to good use, please think of donating them to Triglav for our raffle. You can contact Kathy at 414-529-3881.

You may have noticed or heard at recent Slovenian functions the voices of five happy men singing Slovenian folk tunes. They are five men who would rather go unnoticed but truly enjoy singing, especially Slovenian folk songs, and who wish to keep alive and spread Slovenian song. They are far from professional, but they produce good Slovenian harmony and obviously enjoy doing it. They take their music seriously, rehearsing one hour a week at a local gostilna, giving their harmony a "richer flavor" they say. So, the next time you see and hear these five young men, stop by, introduce yourself and tell them what you think. This Moski Zbor includes : Darko Berginc, Al Chandek, Nick Krmpotich, Mike Maren, and Tim Lipovsek.

Hey, take a look at our photo section!  I was able to put up the first group picture of our society. It is small but you can make out a lot of the people in the picture.  Those kids are now in their 50's.  Kinda fun to see the change. Click here to see it!

If anyone  would like to announce a birthday, engagement, wedding, an upcoming birth or Bar Mitzvah, please contact me and I'll post it.  Also, if anyone would like to write anything of interest for this newsletter, e-mail it to me and I'll post that too. Thanks. You are now up to date. Until next time.
