Our June Picnic:    To top of page
Our June picnic was a complete success. I received so many compliments. They were not all directed at me. There are many people that these compliments need to be passed on to. That would be all our hard workers. "The park looks so beautiful. The grass, the tables, the new mulch around the trees."  "Many new faces who are enjoying themselves so much."  "The band is fantastic. Look at all the people dancing!"  "The food is excellent! How do you prepare it?"   "The service is so fast."  People do take note of how our park looks and operates. I am so proud of all the members who gave of themselves to pull off yet another great picnic. There are just too many to thank so I will just send out a blanket "thank you" to all who participated. Keep up the good work. Great job everyone! Thanks also to the many members who attended the picnic. Your support is appreciated so much.

Father Joze Gole:    To top of page
On July 4th, Father Gole will be celebrating his 64th year in the priesthood. Ordained July 4th, 1943, Father Gole has been an inspiration to many in our community and so many others. Congratulations Father and thank you from the entire membership of Triglav for your dedication and service to our society.

Mike Schneider:    To top of page
Our June picnic band leader, Mike Schneider, has announced his engagement to his bride to be, Heather. If it's possible, she may just put more pep in Mike's step. Congratulations Mike and Heather. Thanks for your help in making our June picnic a huge success.

July 4th:    To top of page
Beautiful weather and lots of people made our membership picnic / July 4th celebration, a fun time for everyone. Thanks to Meagan Strmsek and Matt Mejac as they did a great job organizing this day. Starting off with our annual triathlon, the day proceeded with a balina tournament, a kick ball game, a huge bon-fire, and a fantastic display of fire works. Everyone was entertained all day. Just wanted to take a second here to say it was great to see Janez Yakos in attendance, all the way from Detroit Michigan. Thanks to Eric Vesel for donating a pig for roasting. A huge thank you goes out to Jake Modic for cooking the pre-mentioned pig. Many early morning hours were spent by Jake at the barbecue pit spinning this 110 pound beast. We now call Jake "Flash". When you see him, ask him what is behind his new nick name. I'm sure he will accommodate you with its origin. Also thanks to those who helped out with cooking and kitchen work, Ivan Bambic,  Janez and Marti Mejac, Ellen Strmsek, and Marc Modic. Please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone. I arrived late, due to a prior commitment, and I heard these names mentioned. There most likely were others who helped out. Thanks to all who made this day possible and thanks to all who participated.

Our Next Meeting:    To top of page
Our next meeting will be July 15th at Triglav Park. The meeting will start at 2:00. Please come to voice your ideas.

Our Next Picnic:    To top of page
Our next picnic will be Sunday July 22nd. This is our annual Mission Picnic. This will be the first year without the Mission's president, Mici Coffelt. Always smiling and serving coffee, she will be deeply missed at this picnic. Music will be by the Ed Hodnik Band. Once again, we need help the day before and the day of the picnic. Please try to donate some time to help the Missions.

I was approached at the June picnic by a member who thought it would be appropriate to explain to the rest of our membership how much work there is to do, on a Saturday before the picnic, particularly in the kitchen.  She, for one, didn't realize that there was still work to be done sometimes lasting until 3:00 or 4:00.  She told me, "I work Saturday morning but I could come out in the early afternoon if I knew there was still work to be done."

Well, I am here to tell all of you, there is still work to be done. Here is a run down of what takes place on the Saturday before the picnic.

The day starts around 9:30 - 10:00 preparing the chickens.
On average, there are 125 pounds of potatoes to cook and then peel. That is a lot of potatoes and we could use all the help we can get.
On average, 80 pounds of cabbage needs to be shredded.
Lots of peppers, onions and chives need to be chopped.
Dishes need to be washed and put away and the kitchen in general gets a final cleaning and then gets set up for the next day.
If the dom hasn't been cleaned by the grounds crew, then that needs to be taken care of.
On Sunday, we could always use help in the kitchen slicing all those potatoes. Starting time varies but usually around 9:30. Then at 12:00, our "restaurant" opens for business and help is always appreciated.

Now everyone knows what goes on in the kitchen, and beyond. Perhaps more members will now show up to help knowing that there is always work to do. Like I've always said before, anytime you can show up, it is always greatly appreciated.

Raffle prizes:    To top of page
We have already received numerous prizes and gifts for the games and raffle for the Mission Picnic, but we could always use a few more. If you would like to donate any gifts, please call Kathy Kaye at 414-529-9760.

Slovenian Class:    To top of page
Our first Slovenian language class was a little under attended but those in attendance learned some new words and phrases while having a lot of fun. That's because of our teacher, Irena Mejac. She is truly a wonderful teacher who makes learning the Slovenian language a fun experience. Thanks Irena. I will do a better job of promoting this in the future. I think I will start now. The next Slovenian language class will be held at Triglav Park at our next picnic, July 22nd. It will be held at our  St. Ciril and Methodius Chapel. An announcement will be made prior to its start. Whether you are a novice, intermediate, or an expert in our language, you will learn something new in this class and have a lot of fun to boot.

Our Website:     To top of page
I added a weather link to our site so if anyone wants to check the weather in Waterford (closest I could find to Wind Lake) before heading out the door, you now can. I was asked by many people, who were obviously moved, to post the speech Helen read at the Memorial Day celebration, so there is a link to that speech. I posted a link to an Arial view of Triglav Park. This is pretty cool. You can view Triglav from different directions by clicking on north, south, east or west and you can drag the map in any direction to see all of Triglav and beyond.

If anyone  would like to announce a birthday, engagement, wedding, an upcoming birth etc., please contact me and I'll post it.  Also, if anyone would like to write anything of interest for this newsletter, e-mail it to me and I'll post that too. Thanks. You are now up to date. Until next time.
